In this article, we will give you a brief overview of what you can expect from a Gaggia espresso machine as well as some of the options you can find on different models. In addition, we will also share information about some of Gaggia’s top coffee machines, ensuring you have all the information you need to choose the machine that is right for you.

A Deep Flavorful History

Gaggia is named after its founder, Achille Gaggia, who was an espresso specialist. In fact, he was the first espresso specialist, being the inventor of the first espresso maker to use water pressure instead of steam to extract the best flavor from the beans. This pressurized method is what causes the development of that lovely foam, or crema naturale, on the top of freshly brewed espresso. Achille put a lot of time and effort into this discovery and his hard work paid off. Many years after his invention was patented, his company’s espresso machines are still bringing joy to coffee lovers around the world.

What You Should Know

If you are a coffee lover, then you know that not all coffee is made equal and neither are coffee machines. When choosing a coffee maker you have to take into consideration what you are expecting to get out of it. From simple comforting black coffee all the way to the most complex specialty drink, the coffee machine makes all the difference. Here are a few features you may want to look for when making your decision.

Drink Options

This is your first big decision, what kind of drinks are you expecting to make and how quickly do you want them. If you are a home barista who loves to make hand-crafted specialty drinks, you may prefer a simple espresso machine. Choosing a classic espresso maker leaves all the creativity to you. Now if you want something a little less hands-on, consider purchasing a semi or fully automatic machine. These machines offer the option of one-touch brewing, leaving you to enjoy your specialty drink with as little effort as possible. Have more than one coffee drinker at home? Look for a pot that offers a carafe options, this way you can brew enough for everyone.

Beans or No Beans

There is nothing more delicious than a hot cup of coffee brewed from freshly ground beans. Unfortunately, life does not always cooperate and sometimes we just do not have time to grind our beans. Not to worry, many of Gaggia’s coffee makers come with bean hoppers and grinders built-in. This means that with the touch of a single button you can enjoy fresh ground coffee every time. Some of their machines are also compatible with ESE pods and pre-ground coffee, so you only need to choose the option that is right for you.

Milk to Go

Have you ever watched your local barista steam milk to frothy perfection? If you want that same experience at home, then you can choose a machine with a steaming wand. Many Gaggia machines offer steaming wands that have the capability of steaming at different levels, allowing you to make your milk foam dense and thick or light and fluffy. Again, it all depends on you. If you love specialty drinks with foamy milk, but do not want to hassle with a frothing wand, then you can choose a machine that offers an attached milk carafe. With this option, you simply choose the drink you want and your Gaggia does the rest.

  • Gent Christof

    Better than the rest.
This is the best espresso machine on the market for the money. Everything in it is industrial strength and will last for decades. This thing is a machine, not an appliance. Look up videos from Whole Latte Love on YouTube about how great this machine is, it’s always a top pick for home espresso machines.”

  • Pizzo

“If you are serious, but not obsessed with your espresso, this is absolutely the machine for you! I’ve bee down that road we’re over the years I’ve spent more than this machine’s cost, all while looking for that perfect prosumer espresso machine. Do I wish I would had just bitten the bullet all along? U betcha! The Gaggia classic lives up to its hype and more! I have to warn you tho… once you dial it in and learn how to brew a more than decent espresso shot, visiting Starbucks will become a thing of the past!”

  • Catherine Vinci

    Great quality machine!

I lived in Italy for a few years and have been waiting to buy an espresso machine since I came back to the US because I was afraid I would be disappointed. After making a lot of comparisons, and shopping around a lot, I am happy to say I am not disappointed! I can’t wait to get up in the morning and drink my espresso with steamed milk. Great price for what your getting, easy to use, and easy to clean.”

  • P. Tokarz

    outstanding

first off, I look at these reviews with skepticism. i expect most of these are less than objective which is why i rarely post reviews. instead i research through other means. which is what i did with this espresso machine before deciding to buy.

that said, this machine is outstanding. had a krups espresseria which broke down for the 3rd time in 6 years at 150 dollars each time to fix. Decided to get something else and wanting something more simple but not wanting to shell out for a cafe machine. Looked at several before deciding on the Gaggia. The machine makes the best coffee I’ve ever tasted at home. The grind is critical if you’re using the pressurized basket however so you do need to get a quality grinder. We’ll see how long it lasts but those reviews look good as its been around in one incarnation or another for about 30 years. Love it so far.”
